FIRE Not combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO contact with water.
In case of fire in the surroundings: powder, carbon dioxide, dry sand, NO hydrous agents, NO water.
EXPLOSION

In case of fire: cool drums, etc., by spraying with water but avoid contact of the substance with water.

AVOID ALL CONTACT!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
  • INHALATION
  • Sore throat. Cough. Burning sensation. Dizziness. Laboured breathing. Nausea. Headache. Unconsciousness. Vomiting. Weakness. Shortness of breath. Symptoms may be delayed (see Notes).
    Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
    Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • Pain. Redness. Blisters. Skin burns.
    Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
    Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
  • Pain. Redness. Severe deep burns. Loss of vision.
    Face shield, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
    First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Burning sensation. Abdominal pain. Shock or collapse. (Further see Inhalation).
    Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
    Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer for medical attention.
    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Ventilation. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable dry containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in dry sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place (extra personal protection: chemical protection suit including self-contained breathing apparatus).
    See Chemical Dangers. Cool. Dry. Well closed. Keep in a well-ventilated room.
    Airtight. Unbreakable packaging; put breakable packaging into closed unbreakable container.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
    COLOURLESS, FUMING LIQUID , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
    The vapour is heavier than air.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
    The substance decomposes on heating producing toxic and corrosive fumes including hydrogen chloride and phosphorous oxides. Reacts violently with water producing heat and decomposition products including hydrochloric acid and phosphoric acid, causing fire and explosion hazard. Reacts violently with alcohols, phenols, amines and other many materials.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV: 0.1 ppm; 0.63 mg/m3 (as TWA) (ACGIH 1997).


    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
    The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
    A harmful contamination of the air can be reached very quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20░C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
    The substance is corrosive to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Inhalation of vapour may cause lung oedema (see Notes). Exposure at high levels may result in death. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

    N O T E S
    Reacts violently with fire extinguishing agents such as water. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation is therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate spray, by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered.
